I've never seen his birth date in my research: his age at death would indicate 1677, probably another Julian calendar mixup.Christy K Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05988458745832012138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2216937629699406257.post-78056197028471984272019-01-20T10:26:51.814-07:002019-01-20T10:26:51.814-07:00Hi Christy. In your article, his year of death is 1764. My records indicate 1754. I have his birth as Mar 25, 1678, which would have made him 77 on his death, which seems right per all the records I've read.Ronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15451273641556107145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2216937629699406257.post-45885029237219463262019-01-19T17:04:19.251-07:002019-01-19T17:04:19.251-07:00The different death date is because they went by a...The different death date is because they went by a different calendar in that time, the Julian calendar. New Year was March 25, and August was the "sixth month," not June. So his death was recorded as the second day of the sixth month, meaning 2 August, 1754. Not only was that the standard calendar of the time, but religious people didn't have to use pagan names for their months or days. John Calvin set the tone for the kind of religious intolerance Jenkins fought by standing by as Michael Servetus was burned for disbelieving the trinity. "But he didn't want him to be burned," Calvin's supporters tell us. Right. He suggested they behead him. But he was OK with the stake. Calvin's ways unfortunately became part of the ways of early colonial leaders like Endecott and John Wilson, as readers of this blog are keenly aware.
